A queued ASUS-NB-WMI change lets 2023 GV302X convertibles report folding and unfolding automatically. It fixes a model-identification gap; documented testing covers the GV302XV.
As of the October 11, 2026 source retrieval, the x86 platform-driver maintainer tree has queued an ASUS-NB-WMI tablet-mode quirk for 2023 ASUS ROG Flow X13 GV302X-series convertibles. Phoronix identifies it as a Linux 7.4 change. The confirmed status is inclusion in the maintainer's for-next branch, not confirmation of a released kernel containing it. 2 1
The failure starts with hardware identification. The driver's existing GV301 DMI entry, a model-identification rule, does not match GV302X machines even though both are 360-degree convertibles. Consequently, the driver does not register SW_TABLET_MODE, the input switch that indicates tablet posture. The commit explains that without this signal, the desktop does not switch to tablet mode when the screen folds back. 3
The patch adds a rule matching the ASUS system-vendor string and a product name containing GV302X. That rule selects quirk_asus_tablet_mode, an existing model-specific behavior. This is a recognition fix that routes additional machines through existing tablet-switch handling, rather than a new input interface. 3
For owners moving between laptop and tablet postures, the benefit is automatic selection of the handling needed to report those transitions. The patch author reports that explicitly selecting asus_nb_wmi.tablet_mode_sw=3 already makes the Asus WMI hotkeys input device report SW_TABLET_MODE on every fold and unfold. The new model rule applies that behavior without relying on explicit parameter selection. 3
When assessing applicability, compare the machine's model identifier rather than relying on the Flow X13 branding alone: documented testing used ROG Flow X13 GV302XV_GV302XV. The rule targets the GV302X family, but that test does not establish results for every variant. Expectations should also remain narrow: the commit says the selected quirk otherwise matches the fallback behavior these machines previously received, so this is a tablet-switch improvement, not a broader ASUS feature update. 3
