Linux 7.3-rc4 introduces support for Victrix Pro BFG and several Azeron controllers, enhancing gaming compatibility. This update adds new device IDs to the XPad driver, allowing seamless use of these devices on Linux systems.

Linux enthusiasts and gamers have something to look forward to with the upcoming Linux 7.3-rc4 kernel release. As reported by Phoronix, this new release expands the XPad driver's support to include the PDP Victrix Pro BFG wired controller and a range of Azeron devices. This update is significant for those who rely on Linux for gaming, as it broadens the compatibility of popular gaming controllers with the operating system.

The PDP Victrix Pro BFG, a USB-wired controller, can now function as an Xbox One compatible device on Linux with the simple addition of a new device ID to the XPad driver. This means that users can expect seamless integration and performance akin to other supported controllers, a welcome development for the Linux gaming community.

In addition to the Victrix Pro BFG, the XPad driver now includes initial support for Azeron-branded controllers. These include the Cyro, Cyborg, Classic/Compact, Cyro Lefty, Cyborg II, and Keyzen models. Notably, the Azeron Keyzen is a versatile 32-key gamepad featuring a 360-degree hall-effect joystick, retailing for approximately $269 USD. The inclusion of these devices in the XPad driver paves the way for enhanced gaming experiences on Linux platforms.

Alongside these new additions, the Linux 7.3-rc4 update also addresses various input subsystem bug fixes. These include maintaining functionality for built-in keyboards on devices like the Acer Aspire Go 15 AG15-42P and Xiaomi Redmi Book Pro 16 2026. Furthermore, a quirk has been implemented for the Synaptics PS/2 touchpad driver on the Lenovo ThinkPad T440p to ensure immediate responsiveness at boot.

Overall, the expanded support for gaming controllers and the resolution of input bugs mark a solid improvement for Linux users, particularly those engaged in gaming. As the Linux ecosystem continues to grow, enhancements like these play a crucial role in maintaining its viability as a gaming platform.
