The September 29 release expands architecture-specific boot and partition handling, adds linux-rt and linux-rt-lts selections, and fixes Wi-Fi scan results for network names containing spaces.
Archinstall 4.5 was released on September 29, 2026, updating Arch Linux’s text-based installer with AArch64 installation support and additional kernel choices. This is an installer release: its headline changes concern how a new system is configured, rather than a new kernel implementation. 1 2
The AArch64 work addresses two separate installation components. GRUB and Limine gain EFI installation support for that architecture, while partition handling gains the AArch64 root-partition type GUID, the identifier describing that partition’s type. Together, these extend architecture-specific bootloader installation and root-partition identification. The notes do not establish compatibility with every ARM machine or cover non-EFI boot paths, so the named bootloader and firmware path matter when assessing a target system. 2
For clean installations, the kernel menu adds linux-rt and linux-rt-lts, according to Phoronix. Users wanting a real-time kernel can therefore select one during installation alongside the existing kernel flavors. That changes the provisioning workflow, not demonstrated performance: the report provides no latency measurements or workload guarantees, and does not establish that both packages are available for every AArch64 target. 1
Four desktop profiles also change from polkit to systemd-logind: Hyprland, Labwc, Niri and Sway. The release notes name those profiles, not a distribution-wide replacement. They do not explain the underlying package, service or permission changes, limiting what can be concluded about migration behavior. 2
The Wi-Fi fix is narrower but directly visible during installation. Network names, or SSIDs, containing spaces could be missing from the scan list; version 4.5 fixes that omission. This addresses finding those networks in the installer, rather than establishing a broader connectivity fix. 2
Check the installer version supplied by your chosen installation media before relying on these additions. Phoronix places the release ahead of the October ISO refresh, but the sources retrieved September 30 do not confirm inclusion in a particular October image. Release timing alone is not evidence that an image contains 4.5. 1
