AMD Releases DCN6 Patches for Upcoming RDNA5 GPUs on Linux

AMD has started releasing Display Core Next 6 (DCN6) patches for their AMDGPU Linux drivers, setting the stage for the next-gen RDNA5 GPUs. This move enhances display logic and unit testing for Linux engineers.

AMD has kicked off the process of integrating Display Core Next 6 (DCN6) into their AMDGPU Linux drivers, marking the first public acknowledgment of this next-generation display IP. This set of patches, released at the end of July, is a crucial step in preparing for the upcoming RDNA5 graphics processors, which are anticipated to debut in 2027.

The patches are significant for a few reasons. First, they lay the groundwork for DCN6, which is tied to AMD's GFX13 graphics engine, likely to power the RDNA5 GPUs. Engineers will find that these patches not only aim to bolster the unit testing coverage via KUnit but also introduce enhancements around display stream validation.
