Learn › Build and operate services › Give the service only the access it needs
Use the fresh machine for this return exercise. It supplies /usr/local/bin/camp-reporter and a camp-reporter account. The program prints camp-reporter ready when it starts. This VM does not contain the unit you wrote for the clock.
Inspect the supplied program and account. Predict what systemd will report for camp-reporter.service before you create it. Then make a minimal unit that runs the supplied program as the supplied account. Explain why you chose its ExecStart= and User= values. Read the saved unit, make systemd load it and start it.
Verify that the unit is loaded and active, identify the current process, and find a camp-reporter ready message from this run. An older message or a process number alone is insufficient. Write two sentences for the next operator: what changed, and which observations establish that the new service is running and reporting now?
If you need a hint, first record what you inspected and what you expected. Use the earlier lessons to explain your next change. Lesson 8 will ask you to build and hand over a complete service.

Practice Return task: build another service in a real Linux terminal at The Linux Camp. Progress is verified automatically as you type commands on the machine.
